30 weeks- in Hawaii!

We had a fun trip to Hawaii. It was relaxing, but we also had some good action, the only sad thing is that it FLEW by and now we are back to the real world and back to work tomorrow, boo.
We went snorkeling and saw turtles, tons of gorgeous fish and such. We went on the Manta Ray night dive trip which was really neat except that Eric got very seasick and ended up feeding the fish right about the time when the first mantas showed up. We saw about 5 whales on 2 occasions spouting from the shore. We hiked an incredible incline down to a black sand beach and waterfall viewpoint, and I almost didn't make it back up the hill after! All in all a good trip. We did spend quite a bit of time speculating what it will be like next year on spring break with a 9 month old... and we saw a lot of cute fat little babies on the beach.
My belly has gotten really big now- definitely making it's presence known to everyone else, too! I got a lot of looks in my bikini :-) We've reached 30 weeks too, which seems so close in a way!

28 week appointment

Today we had a traditional appointment with one of the midwives because we will be missing the next centering class while in Hawaii. I got poked all full of holes... blood draw and a BIG Rhogam shot in the rear for good measure- ooh that one hurts!
Good news is that my weight gain is perfect and my belly is now measuring 27 cms- that's 3 cms groth in 3 weeks, again perfect! So she's growing. Grow baby, grow! We also got to hear a good strong heartbeat again, which I love. Now that she is bigger it has slowed a little to the 130-140s range, which is just right.
We asked Kathleen, the midwife, to poke around and see if she could tell baby's position, since I have been so curious. She said that she is head down, back curled along my right side, bum in the upper right and feet stretched down towards her head, which explains why I have been feeling most kicks lower down even though her head is down, too. Of course for the next month or more she will still be able to somersault and change positions anytime.

Now I am spending the day getting packed and ready for our trip since we leave on Saturday and I am working all day tomorrow. Yipee, getting so close!

Funny belly

Tonight, sitting on the couch watching John Stewart, my belly started looking very lopsided. The left side was all poked out and the right was stretched towards it... a very strange sensation and very strange looking too! Eric laughed and commented that it looked like she was trying to stand up in there, and that is exactly what it looked like. It's so fun to SEE her like that! Just thought I'd share my funny belly moment. Have a good night everyone!

Baby room redesign: POLL

So, we have removed a few of the office furniture pieces to the living room to make room for a crib, dresser/changer etc. The question is, what next? The shelves that Eric painstakingly installed through metal studs are still there, and although they are a bit of an eyesore, they may prove useful. So I would like to take a poll- should they stay or should they go? I suppose we could put the crib or the dresser under them and use them for storage. Or take them down and start over. What do you say? Please leave a comment with your opinion!

Belly shot

As requested, Maria! These are from the weekend, 26 weeks. You know what's funny- my bum looks positively small by comparison! That's a sure sign of a big belly :-)

March madness

I can't believe it's March. Only 3 months to go until baby is here!
Our appointment on Thursday went well. Her heartbeat sounds perfect, and my belly is measuring about right... a little small but not enough to worry about yet. We'll follow that up at our next appointment in 3 weeks. We picked a couple of childbirth preparation classes and newborn care/breastfeeding classes and signed up. My schedule makes it a little tough to do week by week courses, so we are doing a weekend crash course on labor, and adding in a few hospital based classes as well.
Today we began stage 2 of the nursery project. The office desk made it's way into the living room, so we have lots of empty space in there now. My grandparents will be bringing the crib after easter, and then once we fill the dresser drawers with diapers and onesies and get a carseat, we will be most of the way ready! We are still deciding whether to keep the shelves in the office or to change them, and also we may paint.
