Jorts camping weekend 2014

We celebrated Kyle's 28th birthday this weekend camping with family and friends. The birthday boy requires that all in attendance wear jean shorts, therefore "jorts".
It was the first time we took both kids, and it was a mile hike in to our site. While we had a laughable amount of stuff including our new tent we dubbed "Chateau de Yost", we did pretty well and had a fun time. Nell napped in the ergo and actually slept decently in the tent. Josie got to stay up late and played mafia with the adults. Maria was narrator and let her tell stories to the group. Many marshmallows and many beers were had. I was a fun time.

Josie turns 5

My smart, funny, passionate, creative first born turned 5 today. She is getting a few freckles on her nose and cheeks, is getting so tall, and wants to grow her hair long. She loves music, singing along and performing both song and dance. She is very feminine. She loves to create art. She is very nurturing, especially to younger children and babies. She is very social, a leader and creator of elaborate imaginary games and stories.
We had an amazing party, with tons of kids over, which she loved! Frozen/princess/pajama party was the theme she chose. The weather was great so the kids spent the whole time outside getting wet and excavating treasures from ice.
All day I was feeling nostalgic, so proud and happy of my growing girl but at that same time wistful because the sweet baby she once was is gone. My beloved friend Katie texted me in the morning that she was in labor with her first son, and my heart was with her as she was becoming a mother for the first time like I did 5 years ago.

POD: duck tails

Nell has the cutest little curl on her neck. It flips straight up and over like a little ducky's tail. And then when it gets wet, it's sooooo long!

Josie's dance recital

Dramatic!

Josie has been going to a dance class once a week for the past few months with grandma. Today we got to go see her perform what she has been working on. She was very excited to have us in the audience and seems to really enjoy performing arts. No flash photos allowed of course, and my pics are a bit blurry.
Afterwards we went for fresh strawberry shake at Burgerville. All around a good day!
