Random pictures spring 2012

Josie likes to pretend she is being boiled for dinner in the bath sometimes. She even adds veggies and spices to the Josie stew. Yum.

In this picture Josie is imitating a character in a book she loves, called No David! As you can imagine, David gets into all kind of trouble, including when he bangs pots in the kitchen and makes a huge racket. Josie thinks this is hilarious.

Naps have gotten a little interesting lately. Mostly we don't have them, but in this day she got a sliver in her foot, which was so traumatic that she just cried herself out of my lap on the couch. Sweet :)

Josie is big into helping. Here she is helping dad drill some furniture together.

We made a twinkle cave as a nice calm spot to go when she needs to cool of a little. She put a blanket and a stuffed animal in there. Heaven!

La Tourelle Falls

We had a nice family hike today in the Columbia gorge. It was not as warm as we thought it was, and Josie was pretty tired so she rode on daddy's back most of the way. She did enjoy eating some foraged sour greens, munch munch. The waterfalls were impressive! For me it brought back lots of memories of hiking in the Gorge as a kid. I'm pretty sure the Grompes had a Christmas card picture taken in front of this waterfall one year.

Camera cleanout feb-march 2012

Well, we've moved. And I have a new job, and I am orienting full time. And Eric has a new job. And things have been generally very insanely busy. But, we're here, and things are going well. I anticipate we will be settling into our new routine any day now :).
Notable things with Josie right now: she is in a super girly, loves princesses, will only wear dresses (preferably purple) mode. She is also wanting an eggy pancake daily or more than once daily, which is a Meemo invention I wanted to document for posterity. She must have it with butter, syrup, and "sour" (lemon juice). Yum.
Here are some pics from our move, our early days in the new house, a quick trip to Seattle to visit some girlfriends including Emily and her new baby Coleson, and today's lovely weather and yard projects.

Mt. Hood adventures

Today was a reminder of how amazing Oregon can be. SUNSHINE! We went up to Mt. Hood for some sledding and snow fun. Josie was luke warm on the sledding, but loved eating snow (Eric too). She got so excited last night that she had to try on all her snow gear and practice, but today the reality was a little much. Go figure. Anyway, it was a fun time and the sun sure boosted our moods.

2.5 year old speech

Josie is very verbal and has a constant stream of words coming out of her mouth. To me, it is very intelligible but it may require some translation if you don't speak toddler.

Her inability to pronounce all consonants leads to a few very endearing toddler versions of a few words. She has particular difficulty with the letter 's' followed by another consonant, as in spider, special, smoke, sparkly. We hear a lot of fffider, ffecial, holy ffokes! And many requests for ffffarkly water. Also cute is opameal instead of oatmeal.

She is very imaginative and has a huge cast of characters in her little brain. She will often demand to be called by one of these many names, and play their role very thoroughly (including pretending to pee on bushes when she is a dog and fuss when she is a baby and drink from a bowl or eat crumbs from the floor when she is a cat). Aliases: Peter pan, baby Jesus, Dakota, Lucifer, baby Ruby, Duchess, baby ocelot, Mufasa (mama did you know I got DEAD! Simba is sad!) and many more.

She will sit in the tub or the car or anywhere really and just talk to herself, read to herself and tell stories. One night we overheard her p retending to read her "kindle": Baby Jesus is born. God is great, God is good, and we thanks him for baby Jesus' food. Amen.

Snow 2012

Well, we have had a busy month since I last posted. We have been house hunting like crazy, finally found one we really like and are moving towards a purchase. I got a job at Doernbecher and a volunteer job teaching parenting classes at Pregnancy Resource. Josie has been busy busy busy and really enjoying the presence of grandma, grandpa and all the family in town.
For a few fun photos, we have today's soggy snow play session in the yard at the Yosts.

PORTLAND!

We made it, finally. Packed, cleaned and moved down the West Linn in live with the Yosts until we find a place.
Now, we are starting to get the hang of a new routine. It is great to have extra hands around, I actually get to shower and cook and work out on my own, with no toddler to worry about. Amazing.
We are in full blown Christmas mode by now, too. Every day Josie asks, "Is it Christmas yet?" Well, no... soon. Time is a hard concept. We are looking forward to all the festivities with all of our family.
Here are a couple pictures from the last 2 weeks.
